Kensington community event informs and entertains Catalyst’s residents

The Kensington Resident Forum’s (KRF) community event on 10th October was a great success for all involved, attracting great feedback from visitors who enjoyed the information stalls, fun activities and workshops.

The KRF event was planned and held in partnership with Catalyst and local social enterprise Epic C.I.C who kindly provided the centre, for Catalyst residents living in the Kensington & Chelsea, Westminster and Hammersmith and Fulham boroughs and Epic members. Epic provides a full range of support services for local young people up to the age of 19 (or 25 for those with a lifelong learning difficulty and/or disability) and also supports young parents.

The event showcased resident’s community projects, as well as the less well known aspects of advice, training and resident involvement that Catalyst and its partners offer. A range of stalls offering everything from advice on gas safety and energy bills and health and wellbeing services to local produce from Catalyst’s resident-run Westcott Park Community Garden and Sybil Thorndike House.

There were some excellent practical results for residents from the day too, with Stephen Edwards, Catalyst’s Energy and Sustainability Officer, identifying savings for one resident of £294 per year and another resident £179 per year through switching.

Denise Clingham, Chair of the Kensington Residents Forum, said: “We wanted to highlight the splendid work of the resident involvement team by including resident run activities into the day, many of which people would not know about if it was not for the work of this team to promote and encourage engagement.”

Rod Cahill, Catalyst’s Chief Executive Officer said: “I thoroughly enjoyed the event and I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone involved in organising it. It was also good to team up with EPIC and use their excellent centre. I was struck by the variety of issues covered by the stalls, with some real practical benefits.”
